History
Aichi Steel emerged from the effort to establish an internal steel capability for Japan’s developing automobile industry. Before Toyota had become a large-scale vehicle manufacturer, Kiichiro Toyoda faced difficulty obtaining automotive steel sheets from established steel producers. His automobile project was relatively small, and outside suppliers were not necessarily willing to support its material requirements. Toyoda therefore pursued in-house capabilities, including a furnace, casting expertise, and forming equipment.
