Zenoss is a software company founded in Austin, Texas, in 2005 by Bill Karpovich and Erik Dahl. The Zenoss platform developed an extension ecosystem known as ZenPacks. These packages, distributed in Python egg format, allowed community or third-party authors to add instrumentation, reports and monitoring logic for specific infrastructure components. The extension model was important to Zenoss's effort to monitor heterogeneous environments, although the licensing terms could vary by package. Reviews of early Zenoss Core releases highlighted its event-management interface, infrastructure discovery and remediation features. These actions ended the community-edition phase of the product's history and reflected the company's emphasis on commercial cloud and enterprise offerings. Greg Stock has served as Zenoss's chief executive officer since 2014.
