Winery of the City of Stuttgart

The Winery of the City of Stuttgart is a winery located in the urban metropolis of Stuttgart. It has existed since 1949. The winery's vineyards are scattered across the city, from Bad Cannstatt to Degerloch, from Hasenberg to Obertürkheim, often in steep slopes requiring manual labor. The wines represent both tradition and new creative paths in the wine world, with a great variety of grape varieties.

The Winery of the City of Stuttgart has existed since 1949. The history of winegrowing in Stuttgart dates back to the 13th century, with the first documented mention in 1250 when a citizen named Buzze cultivated vineyards in the 'Steinihus' location. By the mid-14th century, all suitable slopes in the Stuttgart valley basin were planted with vines. In the late 16th century, the vineyard area reached its greatest extent at about 1250 hectares. In the 19th century, the city operated its own wine press, initially on Seidenstraße and moved to Botnanger Weg in 1874. The inner-city vineyard area shrank from 750 hectares in 1812 over the course of a century.
