Overview
TOTVS is a Brazilian enterprise software company headquartered in São Paulo and one of the largest providers of business-management technology in Latin America. The company serves organizations with enterprise resource planning, financial management, human-resources, payroll, supply-chain, retail, manufacturing, agriculture, services, and other vertical-market applications. Its portfolio is designed particularly around the operational requirements of Brazilian and Latin American businesses, including local accounting, tax, labor, regulatory, and industry processes. The company originated in 1983 when Laércio Cosentino and Ernesto Haberkorn established Microsiga after working together at the data-processing company Siga. Microsiga initially focused on software for small and medium-sized companies, a segment that later became central to TOTVS's market identity. Microsiga merged with Siga in 1989 and continued expanding its product and customer base. In 2005, the company adopted the TOTVS name, marking the consolidation of a broader software group rather than a single application product. Growth was driven both organically and through an extensive acquisition program. TOTVS absorbed or acquired numerous Brazilian software businesses, including companies associated with ERP, human resources, retail, manufacturing, distribution, agriculture, and cloud applications. Important additions included Logocenter, RM Sistemas, Datasul, Bematech, Virtual Age, PC Sistemas, and other specialized providers. These transactions broadened the company's addressable market and enabled it to combine general-purpose enterprise software with solutions tailored to particular industries. The company has also maintained operations and development activities outside Brazil, including offices or research facilities in the United States, Latin America, and Portugal. TOTVS's business model has increasingly incorporated cloud computing and software-as-a-service delivery. Its cloud strategy includes hosted enterprise applications, infrastructure and related digital services, product modernization, and research into cloud technologies. TOTVS Labs was established in California in 2011 as a research center focused on cloud-computing solutions, followed by a Silicon Valley office in 2012. This international technology presence complemented the company's primarily Brazilian commercial base. The brand is positioned as a broad, locally adapted digital-transformation partner rather than a provider of only one ERP product. Its offerings cover core back-office processes as well as front-office, operational, and sector-specific workflows. The company has historically been described as a leader in Brazil's ERP market, with its market position supported by research from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation. Its network has included dozens of Brazilian operating units and research centers, together with international operations in the Americas and Europe. Today, TOTVS remains an active, publicly listed technology company trading on Brazil's B3 exchange under the ticker TOTS3. Its continuing strategic themes are cloud adoption, recurring software revenue, vertical specialization, expansion of integrated business platforms, and the use of acquisitions to add capabilities and customers. Detailed current operating figures, executive rosters, and product availability can change over time and are not included here unless supported by the cited reference material.
History
TOTVS traces its origins to Brazil's emerging software market of the early 1980s. In 1983, Laércio Cosentino, then a young executive at the data-processing company Siga, joined Ernesto Haberkorn in creating Microsiga. The new company concentrated on business software for small and medium-sized enterprises, a customer segment that was underserved by more expensive and complex systems. Microsiga and Siga merged in 1989, linking the new software operation to the organization from which its founders had originated. During the following years, the business expanded from a Brazilian software vendor into a multi-product enterprise-technology group. It added capabilities through internal development and acquisitions of specialized software companies. The acquisition program included businesses such as Logocenter, RM Sistemas, Datasul, Midbyte, and BCS. These additions gave the group broader ERP functionality and access to customers across manufacturing, distribution, services, human resources, and other sectors. In 2005, Microsiga changed its name to TOTVS. The rebranding reflected the company's evolution into a group with multiple products, brands, and acquired businesses rather than a company centered on the original Microsiga identity. TOTVS subsequently continued to use acquisitions as a major growth mechanism, building a portfolio that combined horizontal enterprise applications with vertical solutions. The company expanded its international technology footprint in the 2010s. In 2011 it opened TOTVS Labs on a University of California campus as a research center focused on cloud computing. A Silicon Valley office followed in 2012. TOTVS also maintained operations or offices in the United States, Portugal, and a range of Latin American countries, while Brazil remained its principal commercial and operational base. In 2013, TOTVS acquired or invested in several Brazilian technology companies, including PRX, ZeroPaper, RMS, Ciashop, Seventeen Tecnologia da Informação, and the businesses associated with PC Sistemas and PC Informática. It also acquired the American company GoodData. The transactions added capabilities in agriculture, retail, financial and small-business applications, commerce, distribution, and data-related services. The acquisition of Virtual Age in 2014 strengthened TOTVS's cloud and vertical-software offering for textile, fashion, and clothing companies. In 2015, the company announced the purchase of 100 percent of Bematech for R$550 million. Bematech's commercial-automation activities complemented TOTVS's retail and point-of-sale portfolio. TOTVS's historical development therefore combines three themes: adaptation to Brazilian business and regulatory requirements, expansion through a large number of software acquisitions, and transition from installed enterprise applications toward cloud and SaaS delivery. Its presence has included a large Brazilian unit and research-center network, international research operations, and commercial coverage in Latin America, the United States, and Portugal. The company remains active as a publicly listed Brazilian software group and is commonly identified as a leader in Brazil's ERP market.
