The Ford Meter Box Company

The Ford Meter Box Company is a manufacturer of waterworks products, including meter boxes, pipe products, and related fittings. Founded by Edwin Ford, the company has been serving the waterworks industry since 1898 and was incorporated in Wabash, Indiana in 1911.

The Ford Meter Box Company was founded by Edwin Ford, who designed a meter box for in-ground settings to address water usage shortages. The company was incorporated in Wabash, Indiana in 1911. In 1916, it received its first patent for the water meter test bench. In the mid-1950s, Ford introduced the Pack Joint compression fitting. In the early 1960s, it introduced the ball valve for waterworks applications. In 1972, Ford began marketing all stainless steel repair clamps, and in 1982 acquired Superior Utility Products, which grew into the Pipe Products Division. In 1994, Ford acquired Uni-Flange Corporation. In 2023, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Baker Coupling, LLC, Ford entered into an agreement to acquire certain assets of Baker Coupling Company, Inc.
