Sinopec Northwest Oil Field Company (China)

Sinopec Northwest Oil Field Company (also known as Northwest Oil Field) is the second largest upstream oil and gas production enterprise of Sinopec. Its main oilfield is located in Aksu Prefecture and Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, with some blocks in Hotan and Kashgar. The headquarters is in Urumqi, and a frontline command base is in Luntai County. It is responsible for exploration and development of 35 blocks with a total registered area of 67,900 square kilometers. It has developed 10 oil and gas fields including Tahe Oilfield, Shunbei Oil and Gas Field, and has produced 151 million tons of crude oil and 42.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas cumulatively. In 2026, it plans to produce over 6.85 million tons of crude oil and over 3.75 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

The company entered Xinjiang in 1978. It has built the largest Paleozoic marine carbonate fracture-cavity oilfield in China, the Tahe Oilfield, and one of the world's deepest commercially developed oil and gas fields, the Shunbei Oil and Gas Field. It has developed carbonate fracture-cavity reservoir exploration and development theories and supporting technologies, and has won two National Science and Technology Progress First Prizes.
