History
Schweerbau was founded in 1929 by Heinrich Schweer. In the 1930s, track construction became a mainstay of the company. In the 1950s, the first Matisa track tamping machines were used, and in the early 1960s, the first Plasser & Theurer switch tamping machines. After Heinrich Schweer's death in 1955, his son-in-law Gerhard Jelitto took over management. In 1986, Heinrich's grandson Lutz Jelitto joined the family business and still leads it today. The company has grown from about 100 employees in 1990 to about 900 in 2025.
