PowerBook was Apple Computer's and later Apple Inc.'s principal line of professional and premium Macintosh laptop computers from 1991 until 2006. Introduced in October 1991, the family succeeded Apple's earlier Macintosh Portable and helped establish the modern notebook-computer layout through features such as a palm rest, a centrally placed pointing device, and a keyboard positioned toward the rear of the case. The original PowerBook 100, PowerBook 140, and PowerBook 170 were developed with assistance from Sony and gave Apple a credible portable-computing platform at a time when notebook design was still unsettled. History
Apple introduced PowerBook in October 1991 as the successor to the Macintosh Portable. At the January 2006 Macworld Expo, Apple announced the 15-inch MacBook Pro, followed shortly by a 17-inch model.
