Overview
Nemiroff is a Ukrainian vodka brand whose production and bottling operations are based in Nemyriv, in Vinnytsia Oblast. The brand takes its name from Nemyriv vodka, a local spirit with documented roots reaching back to the eighteenth century. Its industrial heritage is commonly associated with the distillery established in 1872 under Count Grigory Stroganov and later developed under Princess Maria Shcherbatova. The Nemyriv operation became notable for using grain rather than potatoes as the principal alcohol feedstock and for distributing its products beyond the local market. The distillery was nationalized in 1920 during the Soviet period. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union and Ukrainian independence, the Nemiroff trademark was registered in 1992 and the company began exporting in 1994. The modern brand expanded its manufacturing and international presence during the 1990s and 2000s, adding production equipment, strengthening anti-counterfeit packaging, and developing a portfolio that combined unflavored vodka with recipes using honey, pepper, herbs, fruits, and spices. Honey with Pepper became one of the brand's best-known products and acquired a strong association with Ukrainian hospitality and souvenirs. Nemiroff positions itself in the premium and flavored-vodka segments. Its range includes classic vodka, premium and ultra-premium expressions, and flavored products such as The Inked Collection. Production uses rectified grain alcohol, filtration, natural ingredients, infusion techniques, and, for selected products, copper stills or oak-barrel resting. Product descriptions emphasize multi-stage filtration and the use of natural honey, herbs, botanicals, dried fruit, spices, and locally sourced ingredients. The portfolio has included more than 60 classic and flavored products across several price tiers, although the exact assortment varies by market. The company has used international partnerships to build visibility beyond Ukraine. It has sponsored or supported boxing, Eurovision-related activity, cultural events, and music and film initiatives. In 2018 it became an official vodka partner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Later distribution arrangements expanded its availability in Central Europe, the United Kingdom, the Benelux countries, and other markets. In 2024 Nemiroff announced football partnerships with Aston Villa, West Ham United, Everton, and Fulham. Nemiroff has also emphasized Ukrainian identity, environmental measures, and social support. Its Green Planet project promoted electronic documentation and resource conservation, while later packaging initiatives introduced eco-caps designed to reduce reliance on certain plastics. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the company canceled licenses for vodka production in Russia and Belarus and introduced a limited edition whose proceeds were designated for people affected by the war. The company is described in reference material as Ukraine's largest vodka exporter and as a major supplier to duty-free retail. It remains an active Ukrainian spirits brand with production centered in Nemyriv and distribution in more than 80 countries.
History
Nemiroff's history is tied to the distilling tradition of Nemyriv. The earliest local reference cited for Nemyriv vodka dates to 1752. In 1872, Count Grigory Stroganov established a distillery in the town. Princess Maria Shcherbatova subsequently continued the enterprise and commissioned Czech architect Jiří Stibral for construction work associated with the site. Under her direction, the distillery reached production levels reported at more than 5,000 half-liter bottles per day. It was also an early regional producer to make alcohol from grain rather than raw potatoes, allowing its products to move through wider European trade networks. In 1920 the facility was nationalized by the Soviet authorities. Commercial activity under the modern Nemiroff identity resumed after the Soviet Union ended and Ukraine became independent. The Nemiroff trademark was registered in 1992, and exports began in 1994. During the late 1990s the company modernized its industrial base, including the installation of production lines supplied by Krones in Germany. A major portfolio milestone followed in 1998 with the introduction of Honey with Pepper, a flavored vodka combining honey and pepper that became a signature expression in Ukraine and international markets. The company expanded its brand-building activities in the 2000s. It supported professional boxing from 2000, introduced laser-based product protection in 2002 to address counterfeiting, and joined the International Bartenders Association in 2005. Ukrainian Birch Special was also presented during this period. Industry rankings and awards subsequently gave Nemiroff visibility as one of the leading vodka brands internationally. The company supported cultural and sporting events, including Eurovision-related sponsorship, the Nemiroff Yalta Rally European Cup, and the Ukrainian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Its Green Planet program, launched in 2009, promoted electronic document management and resource-saving practices. The product architecture developed from standard vodka into premium, flavored, and ultra-premium tiers. An updated Premium De Luxe line was introduced in 2016. In 2018 the brand completed a large rebranding, giving the bottle a smoother squared form and adding a wing motif to the logo to express an indomitable spirit. That same year Nemiroff entered a strategic partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship as its official vodka partner. In 2019 it introduced The Inked Collection, initially including Bold Orange, Wild Cranberry, and Burning Pear. Nemiroff strengthened its industrial position in 2020 when it became the first private Ukrainian company to acquire the Nemyriv alcohol distillery after the end of the relevant state monopoly; reference material states that the facility was subsequently being reconstructed. Coca-Cola became the brand's official distributor in Poland in 2020, and Coca-Cola HBC expanded its exclusive distribution role in 2021 to the Czech Republic, Moldova, and Slovakia. Nemiroff also entered the United Kingdom in 2021 through Oak & Still and promoted the launch through a partnership with Bloodstock Open Air. In the same period it partnered with Spacebit around a planned lunar mission and received recognition including Vodka Brand Champion and fast-growth distinctions in international spirits rankings. The Russian invasion of Ukraine produced a major commercial and geopolitical decision in March 2022, when Nemiroff canceled licenses for production in Russia and Belarus. The company continued international expansion, launching in The Bahamas in April and entering Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg through a 2022 distribution agreement with Disaronno International. It also issued a Ukraine-support limited edition of Premium De Luxe, with proceeds intended for people affected by the war. In 2023 Nemiroff added LEX by Nemiroff to its ultra-premium range. The product uses wheat from Podilia and an extensive filtration regime involving silver, platinum, and amber. In 2024 the company announced a De Luxe RESERVE relaunch at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, and it expanded sports marketing through partnerships with four English Premier League clubs. Nemiroff remains an active Ukrainian vodka brand, with production and bottling centered in Nemyriv and products distributed internationally.
