History
Nedap was founded in 1929 in Amsterdam, originally abbreviated as Nafa, and changed to its current name Nedap in 1933 (a portmanteau for Nederlandsche Apparatenfabriek). In 1947 it moved to Groenlo in the Netherlands, opened a new factory, and became exchange-listed on NYSE Euronext Amsterdam. In the 1940s Nedap began developing, producing, and selling its own devices under the Nedap brand. In the early 1970s it started developing RFID technology as one of the global pioneers and founded its first Electronics Departments. In 1993 it began organizing around business units, and around 2000 it made the switch from a hardware- to a software-oriented company.
