Nancy's Pizza

Nancy's Pizza is a pizza brand known as the Home of the Original Stuffed Pizza. The stuffed pizza was invented in 1971 by Rocco Palese, who emigrated from Turin, Italy with his wife Annunziata 'Nancy'. The brand made its impact on the Chicago pizza world throughout the 70's and 80's. Nancy's offers take out, delivery, and full-service dine-in locations.

The stuffed pizza was invented in 1971 by Rocco Palese shortly after he and his wife, Annunziata 'Nancy', emigrated from Turin, Italy. Nancy, whose name is now synonymous with the Home of the Stuffed Pizza, was the heart and soul of the brand as it made its impact on the Chicago pizza world throughout the 70's and 80's. Rocco and Nancy had lived most of their adult lives making pizza in Turin, Italy, before moving to Potenza and then emigrating in 1969 with their three children to the United States. After 18 months in Chicago, they opened their first pizza parlor, Guy's Pizza, featuring thin crust pizza. Rocco decided to introduce his own pizza based on his mother's recipe for 'scarciedda', an Easter specialty pie, and the stuffed pizza was born. Rocco opened a new pizza restaurant in Harwood Heights, Illinois, named Nancy's after his wife. The restaurant had a seating capacity of only 35 people when it opened, but within six months expansions increased capacity to 140 people. This was especially necessary after the 1975 rating of Nancy's by Chicago Magazine as 'The Best Pizza in Chicago.'
