Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant is a winery in the Hunter Valley, Australia, established in 1921 by Maurice O'Shea. It is known for its historic vineyards, including Old Hill planted in 1880, and produces Semillon, Shiraz, and Pinot Noir. The estate is considered significant in Australian winemaking history.

Mount Pleasant was established in 1921 by Maurice O'Shea. In 1880, Charles King planted the Old Hill vineyard. O'Shea purchased Old Hill and adjoining land in 1921, naming the property Mount Pleasant. He planted Old Paddock and established Australia's oldest Pinot Noir vines, Mothervine. In 1939, O'Shea purchased Lovedale, but it was sequestered for the war effort. In 1946, he acquired Rosehill. The first vintage of Lovedale Semillon was released in 1950. O'Shea passed away in 1956, and Brian Walsh became Chief Winemaker. Phil Ryan was appointed Chief Winemaker in 1978.
