Meerlust

Meerlust Estate has been the pride of the Myburgh family since 1756. It is known for producing world-class wines, including its iconic Bordeaux-style blend Rubicon, as well as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Merlot. The estate is uniquely positioned for wines with exceptional complexity and character, influenced by cooling coastal breezes and granitic soil.

Meerlust Estate has been the pride of the Myburgh family since 1756. The first owner, a German immigrant named Henning Huising, settled in 1693 and named the farm 'Meerlust', meaning 'pleasure of the sea'. The Myburgh family bought the estate in 1756. The first wine under the Meerlust label was produced in 1975. In 1978, Giorgio Dalla Cia was appointed as Cellarmaster and the first experimental Rubicon blend was made. The first commercial vintage of Rubicon was in 1980, and the first vintage released to the public in 1984 was judged champion red wine at the South African Championship Show.
