KURABO

KURABO (Kurabo Industries Ltd.) is a Japanese company established on March 9, 1888, as a spinning company in Kurashiki, Okayama. It has since expanded into diverse fields including housing, automobiles, electronics, food, and more. The company operates through segments such as chemicals, textiles, environmental mechatronics, food and services, and real estate.

KURABO was founded on March 9, 1888, as 'Limited Liability Kurashiki Spinning Mill' (有限責任倉敷紡績所) in Kurashiki, Okayama, with Daizaburo Ohara as the first president. In 1893, the company name was changed to Kurashiki Spinning Co., Ltd. (倉敷紡績株式会社). In 1895, it began exporting cotton yarn to China under the trademark 'Samba' (三馬). In 1902, it started basic education for employees. In 1909, it established Kurashiki Electric Light (now Chugoku Electric Power). In 1921, it opened the Kurashiki Institute for Science of Labour. In 1923, it opened the Kurabo Central Hospital (now Kurashiki Central Hospital). In 1925, it established Kurashiki Silk Weaving (now Kuraray). In 1930, it opened the Ohara Museum of Art.
