Junker Group is a German industrial group built around the JUNKER grinding-machine business and the LTA and ZEMA brands. Its principal activities are the development and manufacture of machines for grinding with cubic boron nitride (CBN) and corundum abrasives, together with filtration and industrial air-purification equipment. The group serves manufacturing industries in which precision machining, process reliability, automation and control of airborne contaminants are important, including automotive and component production. The business originated in 1962, when Erwin Junker established Erwin Junker Maschinen- und Apparatebau. Early development focused on automated grinding equipment. A Shanghai branch was established in 2003, Czech grinding operations were consolidated under Erwin Junker Grinding Technology a.s. in Mělník in 2007, and sales and service offices followed in India, Brazil, Russia and Mexico. ZEMA Zselics Ltda., a Brazilian grinding-machine manufacturer, joined the group in 2015. The organization also invested in workforce development: the Erwin Junker Technical Academy opened in Holice, Czech Republic, in 2015 to address the shortage of technically trained workers, with its first two-year cohort completing training in 2017. The group established a manufacturer foundation in 2016 and expanded LTA’s international footprint with operations in the United States and the Czech Republic. Junker Group’s business model combines machine production with services, technology and equipment. Erwin Junker founded Erwin Junker Maschinen- und Apparatebau in 1962, establishing the industrial business that later became the JUNKER Group. JUNKER’s technology development was particularly significant in automotive and high-volume component manufacturing. In 1978, it introduced CBN high-speed grinding machines. In 1984, the company developed the QUICKPOINT process, a point-grinding method that allowed complex contours to be produced in one clamping operation. The approach used computer-controlled movement of the grinding wheel and could be applied to a broad range of materials. In 2003, the JUCRANK machine extended CBN high-speed grinding to complete crankshaft machining in a single setup. The JUCENTER, introduced in 2008, combined two machining stations and additional processing possibilities within one machine enclosure. The group expanded its international service network during the 2000s and 2010s. After Shanghai in 2003, offices were opened in India in 2009, Brazil in 2011, Russia in 2012 and Mexico in 2014. ZEMA Zselics Ltda., a Brazilian manufacturer of grinding machines, joined the group in 2015. LTA’s international business also expanded: LTA Industrial Air Cleaning was established in the United States in 2016, followed by LTA Industrial Air Cleaning Systems s.r.o. in the Czech Republic in 2017. Training and institutional development became additional priorities. The Erwin Junker Technical Academy opened in Holice in 2015 in response to a shortage of technically qualified workers. Its facilities included the Erwin Junker Hotel and Quickpoint Restaurant, and its first two-year class graduated in 2017. In 2016, the Erwin Junker manufacturer foundation was established. The group’s business areas now cover machines, services, technology and equipment. Its manufacturing and service footprint spans Germany, the Czech Republic, the Americas, Asia and other international markets. JUNKER, LTA and ZEMA remain the principal brands associated with the group.
