Ioniqa

Ioniqa is a clean-tech spinoff from the Eindhoven University of Technology (NL), specialized in creating value out of PET waste by using its proprietary circular technology. The company's process upcycles all types and colors of PET waste into 'virgin-quality' new PET, even suitable for food packaging. Ioniqa's technology is based on depolymerisation, and the company is currently scaling up its novel technology focused on PET plastics, with potential future applications to other plastics and organic materials.

Ioniqa was founded in 2009 when the founder, Tonnis Hooghoudt, teamed up with a PhD student from the Technical University Eindhoven and the Dutch Polymer Institute. The company initially started its journey in the Automotive sector, but later achieved a breakthrough in the upcycling of waste back to 'virgin' raw materials. Ioniqa's technology is a platform technology, currently focused on PET plastics, with potential future applications to other plastics and organic materials.
