Overview
Henry Avocado Corporation, founded in 1925, is a family-owned and managed company that provides fresh conventional and organic avocados year-round from California, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, and Chile. It pioneered forced-air ripening of avocados in 1983 and offers custom-ripened avocados through its regional sales and ripening centers.
History
Henry Avocado was founded in 1925 by Charles and Florence Henry, who were among the first to plant avocados in San Diego County, California. Their sons Gil and Warren joined the company after military service. After their father was fatally injured in an accident on the farm in 1953, Gil took on packing and marketing, Warren handled farming and planting, and their mother continued accounting. Later in the 1950s, their cousin George Schoeffel joined as sales manager. The current managing owners are Phil Henry, Don Hoey, Rick Opel, and Vic Varvel. The original Henry farm has been in continuous avocado production since 1925.
