FRISK Software International was an Icelandic software company focused primarily on antivirus and related information-security products. Founded in 1993 by Friðrik Skúlason, the company built its reputation around F-Prot Antivirus, a long-running malware-detection product that originated before the company itself was established. The F-Prot name became associated with practical antivirus protection for home users, businesses, and software developers requiring an embedded scanning engine. F-Prot's origins date to 1989, when Skúlason developed an antivirus program known as Lykla-Pétur while working in computer support. The acquisition ended FRISK’s independent corporate existence, although the F-Prot technology and brand continued for a period under Cyren ownership. F-Prot Antivirus eventually reached end-of-life on July 31, 2021, after which it was no longer sold.
