History
Dassault Systèmes originated within the aerospace sector, where increasingly complex aircraft programs created demand for advanced digital design tools. In 1981, Dassault Aviation spun out a software business to develop and market CATI, a three-dimensional surface-design system. The product became CATIA and was distributed internationally through an IBM sales and marketing agreement.
