History
The industrial lineage of CRRC Qingdao Sifang begins with the construction of the Shantung Railway Syfang General Repair Works in 1900. The workshop was established near Sifang railway station in Qingdao while the German-administered railway network in Shandong was being developed. Completed in 1902, it was intended to repair and assemble railway equipment and became one of the earliest major rolling-stock factories in China. Early production relied partly on locomotive components imported from Germany, with assembly and repair performed locally. The First World War brought military conflict to Qingdao and damaged the works. After Japan assumed control of German railway assets in Shandong, the facility was reorganized as the Shantung Railway Syfang Workshop. After 1949 the plant was reorganized as Sifang Works and became part of the state railway-industrial system. The company participated in CRH2 production and subsequently developed or manufactured CRH380A and CR400AF train families.
