Cooperative Wine Cellar (Gandesa)

The Cooperative Wine Cellar (Gandesa) is a cooperative of thousands of farmers working the land of Gandesa, a land of vineyards and centenary olive trees, producing wines and oils of strong personality and renown. They have been caring for the fields for over a hundred years, harvesting by hand from old vines and olive trees, and bottling a living product made from excellent grapes and olives, as well as the sun, moon, wind, rain, and the different clays and altitudes of the Terra Alta. The cooperative spirit and union, permanent innovation in tradition, and the fight for an always excellent product are a legacy transmitted by preceding generations.

The cooperative has been active for more than 100 years, with thousands of farmers working the land of Gandesa. The history of the Cooperative dates back to the early 20th century: in 1901, the vines of Gandesa were devastated by phylloxera, and farmers planted American root vines. The building, designed by architect Cèsar Martinell, is considered one of the 'Cathedrals of wine' and is catalogued as a Cultural Asset of National Interest and one of the seven wonders of Catalonia.
