History
The company was organized in 1874 with mutual principles. On October 31, 1874, The Bay of Quinte Mutual Agricultural Fire Insurance Company commenced business in rented office space in the Jamieson Block in Picton. In 1912, its Inspection department was established to help policyholders identify potential fire hazards. In 1913, the company's first telephone system was installed. In the 1920s, it expanded beyond Prince Edward County to insure properties in Northumberland and Hastings counties. In 1927, it began writing residential or non-farm policies. In 1931, it expanded to include Belleville, Sidney and Thurlow. In 1956, the Standard Policy was introduced, and coverage expanded to include explosion of natural, coal and manufactured gas.
