Astra Bier

Astra Bier is a beer brand that originated in Hamburg. Its history dates back to 1647 when a Dutchman brewed beer in Altona, which later became Astra. The brand was renamed Astra in 1909. In 1997, production was stopped, but after public support, the brewery was bought by the city of Hamburg in January 1998, securing the location and jobs. Since 2000, the brand features a heart anchor on its products. The iconic 'Was dagegen?' campaign was created by Hamburg advertising professionals Philipp and Keuntje.

The history of Astra Bier begins in 1647 when a Dutchman brewed beer in Altona, which was then called 'Bavaria Bier'. In 1909, the Bavaria-Brauerei AG renamed the beer to Astra. In 1922, the Actien-Bierbrauerei was taken over and renamed to Bavaria- und St. Pauli-Brauerei. In 1994, Brau und Brunnen AG became the new owner, but in February 1997, Astra was discontinued. In January 1998, the city of Hamburg bought the brewery, securing the location and jobs. In 1998, the advertising campaign 'Was dagegen?' was created by Philipp und Keuntje. Since 2000, the heart anchor has been displayed on every bottle, can, and poster.
