Overview
Groupe ADP is a French airport infrastructure operator whose core activities are concentrated on the operation, management and development of airports in the Paris region. Its principal airport assets include Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly and Paris-Le Bourget. The group’s activities extend beyond runways and terminals to airport retail, passenger services, property development, and airport management and advisory activities in international markets. Its origins go back to the public institution created in 1945 for Paris airports; it was later converted into a joint-stock company and became publicly traded. Groupe ADP is used as the group-level brand, while Paris Aéroport is primarily a passenger-facing airport-services brand. Because its activities combine commercial operations with critical public infrastructure, the group remains closely linked to French national and regional transport, land-use and aviation policy.
History
The history of Groupe ADP goes back to France’s post-war effort to organize the management of airport infrastructure in the Paris region. A public institution for Paris airports was established in 1945 to develop, maintain and operate the region’s airports. As French public-enterprise reforms progressed and air transport expanded, the institution was converted into a joint-stock company and operated under the Aéroports de Paris name in the capital markets. Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly became the group’s principal assets in the French aviation network, while Paris-Le Bourget retained roles in general aviation, business aviation and aviation events. The group subsequently broadened its activities from infrastructure operations into terminal retail, food and beverage, property development, and international airport management services. Around 2016, Groupe ADP was strengthened as the group-level brand, while Paris Aéroport was used as the passenger-facing brand for its Paris airports. The group has since continued to develop capacity, service quality and commercial space across the Paris airport system, while also participating in overseas airport projects through investments, management contracts and professional services. Its development has remained shaped by passenger demand, airport capacity, environmental policy, infrastructure regulation and the French state’s ownership position.
