Advantest began in Japan in 1954 under the name Takeda Riken Industry Co., Ltd. Its initial business centered on electronic measuring instruments used in the design, production, and maintenance of electronic systems. Advantest also used acquisitions and business purchases to broaden its technical scope. In 2018 it bought Astronics Corporation’s semiconductor test business. It completed the acquisition of Essai in January 2020, adding a U.S. supplier of final-test and system-level test equipment. In October 2021 it acquired R&D Altanova, a U.S. semiconductor test-equipment supplier. In June 2022 it acquired CREA, an Italian company known for power-semiconductor test equipment. In June 2024 it acquired Salland Engineering in the Netherlands, adding another semiconductor test technology center. Advantest’s modern business is generally described through three areas: semiconductor and component test systems, mechatronics including handlers, and services and support. Its systems are used in engineering development and high-volume production, while its service organization supports installation, applications, maintenance, and customer integration.
