WeRide is an autonomous-driving technology company founded in 2017 by Tony Han, a former chief scientist of Baidu's autonomous-driving unit. The company develops Level 4 automated-driving systems and vehicle products for passenger mobility, public transport, logistics, sanitation, and related commercial applications. Its principal offerings include robotaxis, autonomous minibuses and robobuses, autonomous vans, sensor systems, and autonomous sanitation vehicles. In 2025, it participated in an autonomous-mobility project supported by the Canton of Zurich and Swiss Federal Railways, and announced a fully driverless European robobus shuttle project in France. WeRide pursued public-market financing during the expansion of the autonomous-driving sector. It filed for a Nasdaq initial public offering in 2024 and subsequently traded under the symbol WRD. The listing made WeRide one of the first publicly traded companies focused broadly on autonomous driving and one of the earliest publicly listed robotaxi companies. By 2025, the company reported a workforce of more than 2,000 employees. Singapore became another important test market. WeRide began operations there in 2022 and later reached an arrangement with Strides, a subsidiary of SMRT Corporation. In December 2023, Singapore's Land Transport Authority granted WeRide licenses covering autonomous-vehicle testing on public roads and public paths. During 2023, WeRide also received the UAE's first approved national license for self-driving vehicles on public roads, strengthening its ability to move from controlled trials toward regulated services. The company continued broadening its product portfolio in 2023 and 2024. At CES 2023 it introduced Sensor Suite 5.1, a new generation of autonomous-driving sensing hardware and software. In April 2024 it launched the Robosweeper S1, applying automated driving to municipal sanitation. In May, WeRide announced a partnership with Renault Group, and in June it worked with Singapore sanitation company Chye Thiam Maintenance to advance Robosweeper deployment in Singapore. That month it also announced a strategic partnership with Uber, initially allowing selected WeRide vehicles in Abu Dhabi to be requested through the Uber application. WeRide pursued a public listing as autonomous-driving companies sought additional capital and greater international visibility. It filed for a Nasdaq initial public offering in 2024 and later traded under the symbol WRD. The transaction positioned it among the earliest publicly listed companies whose core business covered a broad autonomous-driving portfolio, including robotaxis. By 2025, WeRide reported more than 2,000 employees and operations or deployments spanning dozens of cities and multiple continents. In early 2025, WeRide introduced the Robovan W5 and announced a European fully driverless robobus shuttle project in France with beti, Renault Group, and Macif. It also launched the GXR robotaxi model in Beijing and participated in a Swiss autonomous-mobility project backed by the Canton of Zurich and Swiss Federal Railways.
