Tet

Tet was created in 1992 as Latvia rebuilt the institutional and technical foundations of its telecommunications sector following the restoration of independence. The company became the principal operator of Latvia's fixed telecommunications infrastructure and played a central role in replacing legacy systems with modern digital networks. Its early business was associated mainly with fixed-line voice communications, but the expansion of internet access gradually became the more important driver of customer relationships and network investment. During the 2000s and 2010s, the business broadened beyond traditional telephony. The company has also promoted technology-enabled services in areas such as energy management and smart-home use, although its core identity remains telecommunications and IT. Tet continues to operate principally in Latvia. Its importance derives not only from its commercial customer base but also from its role in national digital infrastructure, broadband availability and the delivery of technology services to organizations. As a state-controlled company, its ownership, strategic direction and relationship with other Latvian communications assets are periodically subjects of public and political attention.
