Stony Hill

Stony Hill is a family-owned winery located on Spring Mountain in Napa Valley, known for producing high-elevation, mineral-driven wines. The estate was founded in 1951 and produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The winery has been family-owned since its inception and is currently owned by the Lawrence Family.

Stony Hill was founded by Fred McCrea and his wife Eleanor, who acquired a 168-acre goat ranch on Spring Mountain in 1943 and developed it into a wine estate. The first post-Prohibition winery was built in 1951, and the inaugural vintage was released in 1952. The winery was known for producing Chardonnay in the style of white Burgundy. In 1972, Fred brought on Mike Chelini as assistant winemaker, who later took over after Fred's passing in 1977 and continued for over four decades. In 2004, the first Cabernet Sauvignon was planted, with first red wines released in 2009. In 2020, the winery moved into a new era with ownership by the Lawrence Family.
