Ohara Brewing

Carlow Brewing Company, also known as O’Hara’s Brewery, is an independent, family-owned business established in 1996 and one of the pioneers of Irish craft brewing. Located in the heart of Ireland’s traditional malt and hop-growing “Barrow Valley” region, the brewery crafts traditional Irish beers and its own interpretation of international beer styles, including stouts, ales, wheat beers, and lagers, all carrying the brewery founders family name, O’Hara’s.

Carlow Brewing Company was established in 1996 when O’Hara’s Carlow Brewing Company signed a lease on the nineteenth century “Goods Store” in Carlow town within the local railway station grounds. In 1998, after restoring the old Goods Store and sourcing and commissioning a new 15HL brewhouse, the company launched its first two beers: O’Hara’s Irish Red (formerly known as Moling’s Red Ale) and Curim Gold Celtic Wheat Beer. In 2005, the company expanded capacity by adding additional fermentation vessels, and by end of 2006/2007 it was again approaching capacity limits, leading to plans to move the brewery to a new location.
