Northland was founded in Newton, MA in 1970, and became a noted New England real estate firm with a growing commercial and development portfolio. In 1997, Essex Partners, which was founded by Larry Gottesdiener, acquired Northland. Essex Partners had a mix of geographically-diverse, multifamily properties and, after the acquisition, integrated its investment strategies with Northland’s robust management and operations platform. Since the merger, Northland has successfully raised eight investment funds before, during, and after the Great Recession.
