Northland is a privately-held real estate private equity firm with core competencies in the acquisition, development, management, and long-term ownership of multifamily and mixed use real estate throughout the United States. Founded in Newton, MA in 1970, it became a noted New England real estate firm. In 1997, Essex Partners, founded by Larry Gottesdiener, acquired Northland and integrated its investment strategies with Northland's management and operations platform. Since the merger, Northland has raised eight investment funds.

Since the merger, Northland has successfully raised eight investment funds before, during, and after the Great Recession.
