Niagara Transformer

Niagara Transformer, also referred to as Niagara Power Transformer, has been in operation since 1924. The company provides complete transformer service solutions and manufactures transformers. It has served more than 80 countries and is focused on the future of the power industry.

Niagara Transformer's original company, Erie Electric Corp., was founded in 1924 by John H. Darby with a borrowed $300 in capital. In 1933, Niagara Transformer designed and manufactured its first new industrial grade transformer. In 1943, it designed and manufactured its first new utility grade transformer. In 1957, expansion increased facilities to a total of 10 buildings. In 1977, the company expanded into disc winding and on-load tap-changing capabilities. In 1979, Fred W. Darby became second generation company president and the first successful short circuit test was performed. In 1990, the company shipped 70 sealed dry type transformers to Antarctica. In 1999, it completed its 75,000th transformer. In 2000, John F. Darby became third generation company president. Between 2013 and 2018, the company opened its production campus with a $45 million investment in Buffalo, New York. In 2019, it opened a new $4 million advanced engineering, research, and development center in Buffalo. In 2020, Niagara Transformer Corp. evolved.
