nexAir was formed in 1996 when Standard Welders Supply merged with Mid-South Oxygen. Standard Welders Supply was founded in Memphis, TN, and was purchased by R.Q. McEniry in 1950. Over the years, nexAir expanded into Birmingham, Atlanta, and other markets, and acquired various businesses including Praxair Distribution Southeast and Linde LifeGas. Headquarters relocated to Crosstown Concourse.
