History
New Holland's history begins in 1895 in New Holland, Pennsylvania, where Abe Zimmerman founded the New Holland Machine Company in a horse barn. The company initially made practical agricultural equipment, including a feed mill, for local farmers. It was incorporated in 1903 and gradually developed from a regional supplier into a broader farm-machinery business. A major ownership change occurred in 1947, when Sperry Rand acquired the business and the name became Sperry New Holland. The same year, the company introduced the haybine mower-conditioner, a significant haymaking product that combined mowing and conditioning. The technology remained an important part of New Holland's product heritage for many decades. In 1964, Sperry New Holland acquired a major interest in Claeys, a Belgian company founded by Leon Claeys in 1906. Claeys had built threshing machines and later became a major European combine manufacturer, with its Zedelgem factory becoming an important harvesting site in the New Holland network. The harvesting portfolio was further distinguished in 1975 when Sperry New Holland introduced a twin-rotor combine. This design became one of the brand's best-known technical directions.
