KSNC

KSNC is a television station serving central Kansas from a license base in Great Bend. The station broadcasts on channel 2 and is affiliated with NBC and Telemundo. It is one of the stations in the Kansas State Network, a regional television system built around Wichita NBC affiliate KSNW. Rather than functioning as a fully independent local newsroom, KSNC largely relays KSNW programming while inserting localized advertising, station identification, and limited news material for viewers in and around central Kansas. KSNC began broadcasting from Great Bend, Kansas, on November 28, 1954, as KCKT. By the beginning of the twenty-first century, most of its news output consisted of localized inserts within KSNW's broader newscasts. Master control and most internal network functions were based at KSNW's studios in Wichita, while KSNC retained a bureau, advertising sales office, and transmitter near Great Bend. Ownership changed repeatedly over the following decades. SJL Broadcast Management acquired the KSN stations in 1988, and Lee Enterprises bought them in 1995. Emmis Communications acquired most of Lee's television properties in 2000. Montecito Broadcast Group, formed through a partnership between SJL and Blackstone Group, purchased the KSN stations in January 2006. Montecito sold the stations to New Vision Television in a transaction announced in July 2007 and completed in November of that year. LIN TV Corporation announced in May 2012 that it would buy New Vision's station group, including KSNW and its satellites. The purchase received FCC approval in October and closed later that month. Media General announced its acquisition of LIN Media in March 2014, completing the merger in December. Nexstar Broadcasting Group subsequently pursued Media General and completed the acquisition on January 17, 2017. This transaction brought KSNC under Nexstar ownership and reunited the broader Kansas State Network with KSNF, a station that had been separated from the group in an earlier ownership restructuring. KSNC ended analog operation on October 1, 2008.
