Klan Kosova

Klan Kosova is a private television broadcaster serving audiences in Kosovo. The channel was established on 2 December 2008 and began broadcasting on 17 February 2009, the first anniversary of Kosovo's declaration of independence. It emerged from cooperation between Albania's TV Klan and Kosovan journalist Baton Haxhiu, with the stated purpose of responding to Kosovo's rapidly changing political and social environment while strengthening the media connection between Kosovo and Albania. Aleksandër Frangaj, the Albanian media executive associated with TV Klan, supervised the project during its early development, while Haxhiu became its general director. The broadcaster began under modest technical and physical conditions. Its early studios operated from a small building on Hyzri Talla Street in central Pristina, using older equipment supplied by TV Klan. Despite those constraints, Klan Kosova developed a schedule combining live and recorded programming, daily news, public-affairs discussions, social and economic coverage, cultural programming, sports and entertainment. It added satellite distribution in November 2009, extending its availability beyond its initial terrestrial and cable footprint. In 2015, Klan Kosova relocated to the former Damper Factory near Kosovo Polje. The move coincided with a transition to high-definition broadcasting and represented a significant technical and operational step in the channel's development. Its programming has included multiple daily news editions, a main evening bulletin, a late-night special edition and a broad group of talk, magazine and entertainment formats. Among the programmes associated with the channel are Ora 7, Ora e Pasdites, Info Magazine, Minuta e Fundit, Rubikon, Privé, Sports Show, Kultora, Kiks Kosova, Familja Ime, Kosova Today and Weekend. Some formats were transferred from other Kosovo broadcasters, including Çka ka Shpija from Radio Television of Kosovo, Rubikon from Kohavision and DPT Te Fidani from ATV. Reality television became an important part of the channel's entertainment strategy when Klan Kosova secured Kosovo broadcast rights for Big Brother VIP through Banijay Rights. The Kosovo edition, Big Brother VIP Kosova, premiered on 5 December 2022 and became one of the broadcaster's prominent programming properties. The channel's overall offer remains centered on Albanian-language television for Kosovo, with news and current affairs forming its editorial core and entertainment, reality, sports and lifestyle programming broadening its audience appeal. Klan Kosova is owned by KGO Media Investments Holding, a company based in Skopje. In 2023, the broadcaster became the subject of a licensing dispute after its business license was suspended amid allegations concerning the misuse of official duties and economic authorizations. The suspension generated public controversy and drew concern from international journalist and diplomatic circles. Employees and members of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo protested the decision. On 24 July 2023, the Basic Court of Pristina overturned the suspension, finding that it was not justified and permitting the station to continue operating. Klan Kosova remains an active private broadcaster and is described as one of Kosovo's leading private television channels.

Klan Kosova was created in the context of Kosovo's expanding post-independence media sector. The project was founded on 2 December 2008 and developed through cooperation between Albania's TV Klan and Kosovan journalist Baton Haxhiu. Its objective was to create a broadcaster capable of addressing Kosovo's political, social and economic developments while maintaining a close media relationship with Albania. Aleksandër Frangaj, the media executive connected with TV Klan, supervised the early project, and Haxhiu served as general director. A major operational change occurred in 2015, when the broadcaster moved from its original central-Pristina premises to the former Damper Factory near Kosovo Polje. The relocation took place alongside the station's move to high-definition broadcasting, improving its production environment and technical presentation. Klan Kosova subsequently became associated with a substantial collection of locally produced and acquired programmes. These included Ora 7, Ora e Pasdites, Info Magazine, Minuta e Fundit, Rubikon, Privé, Sports Show, Kultora, Familja Ime, Kiks Kosova, Pasion e Profesion, Shija e Anës, Sol me Adelina Hasanin, Kosova Today, DPT Te Fidani, Fol Me Arin, Hallakamë and Weekend. Several programmes had previously appeared on other Kosovo broadcasters, reflecting the competitive and mobile nature of the country's television market. In 2022, entertainment became even more prominent when Klan Kosova obtained rights from Banijay Rights to broadcast Big Brother VIP in Kosovo. The local version, Big Brother VIP Kosova, debuted on 5 December 2022 and became one of the channel's key entertainment properties. The format complemented the broadcaster's established news and current-affairs identity with a high-profile reality franchise. The broadcaster faced a serious regulatory and legal dispute in 2023. Following an investigation reported by KosovaNews, its business license was suspended on 14 June over allegations involving misuse of official duties and economic authorizations. The action was controversial in Kosovo and attracted concern from international journalist organizations and the Quint countries. Klan Kosova employees and members of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo staged a walkout on 31 July. On 24 July, however, the Basic Court of Pristina overturned the suspension, holding that it was not justified and allowing the station to continue its operations. Klan Kosova is owned by KGO Media Investments Holding, a Skopje-based company. It continues to operate as a private Kosovo television network whose core proposition combines Albanian-language news and public-affairs coverage with entertainment, sports, lifestyle and reality programming.
