Kennedy Valve

Kennedy Valve is one of the industry's leading fire hydrant, valve and fire protection valve manufacturers, delivering fire hydrants, butterfly valves, check valves, resilient seated gate valves and UL-FM approved valves worldwide. The company has been a cornerstone of the community for over 140 years and is proud to be a part of the McWane companies.

Daniel Kennedy started making gate valves in a shop on Gold Street in Lower Manhattan in 1877. In 1890, the plant was moved to Coxsackie, N.Y., and the D. Kennedy firm became the Kennedy Valve Manufacturing Co. In 1907, a larger plant was built in Elmira, N.Y. In 1920, a brass foundry was added. In 1940, the plant received three Maritime Commission awards to manufacture eight million valves for the Victory Fleet. In 1962, Kennedy Valve Manufacturing Co. was purchased by Grinnell Corp. In 1969, Grinnell Corp. was purchased by ITT, and Kennedy Valve became a wholly owned subsidiary of ITT Grinnell. In 1988, McWane, Inc. purchased Kennedy Valve from ITT Corp. In 2007, Kennedy Valve celebrated 100 years of operations in Elmira, N.Y.
