Heidelberg Materials Devnya

Heidelberg Materials Devnya is the new name of Devnya Cement AD, the largest cement producer in Bulgaria, located in the town of Devnya, Varna region, in operation since December 4, 1958. It is part of the Heidelberg Materials group, which acquired Italcementi Group in 2016. The company operates a new production line with an investment exceeding 350 million BGN, and is involved in the ANRAV project, aiming to make the plant the first industrial enterprise in the country with a neutral carbon footprint.

Construction of the cement plant in Devnya began in 1954. On December 4, 1958, the largest cement production plant in Bulgaria was put into operation. The plant was expanded in 1963-1964, 1975-1978, and later modernized. In 1992-1995, the state company Devnya Cement was transformed into a sole-shareholder joint-stock company with state property, Devnya Cement EAD. In 1998, the plant was privatized and became owned by Italcementi Group. In 2012, Devnya Cement received a First Class Investor Certificate from the Ministry of Economy and Energy for its plant modernization project, and construction of a new clinker and cement production line began. The new line was officially opened in 2015. In 2016, HeidelbergCement Group acquired Italcementi Group, including the Devnya Cement plant. In 2022, HeidelbergCement Group became Heidelberg Materials, and the Bulgarian companies also joined.
