Hartness

ITW Hartness, based in Greenville, SC, is a global leader in packaging solutions. Founded by Tom Hartness in 1940, the company has over 100 patents and thousands of installations worldwide. It became part of Illinois Tool Works (ITW) in 2009 and offers products like dynamic accumulators, case packers, and services including parts, updates, and training.

In 1940, Tom Hartness acquired the Pepsi bottling rights in Greenville, South Carolina. He engineered the first Hartness case packer. In 1972, he founded Hartness Engineering with sons Pat and Bobby. In 1974, Hartness International introduced the rigid corner plastic finger grid system. In 1976, the Model 100 was developed. In 1979, development of the first servo case packer began. In 1982, the 800 Series was introduced. In 1987, new world HQ opened in Greenville, SC. In 1996, the Octopack was patented. In 1999, Pat Hartness created the GlobalPack. Since acquisition by ITW in 2009, ITW Hartness has adopted the ITW business model.
