Overview
Globant is an Argentine-founded multinational technology and software-services company established in Buenos Aires in 2003 by Martín Migoya, Guibert Englebienne, Martín Umaran, and Néstor Nocetti. The company began as a software-development provider and expanded into a broader digital-transformation partner for large enterprises and organizations. Its work spans software engineering, cloud and infrastructure, user experience and product design, digital strategy, data and artificial intelligence, mobile applications, digital marketing, cybersecurity, and industry-specific technology services. The company’s early growth was linked to the export of Argentine and Latin American software expertise to international customers. By 2008, Globant had reached annual turnover of approximately US$40 million and was identified by industry analysts as one of the region’s fast-growing technology companies. That year it acquired Accendra, an Argentine software business with about 100 employees, extending its operations into Chile and Colombia. It also acquired Openware, which specialized in security and infrastructure management, and completed a US$13 million financing round led by Riverwood Capital and FTV Capital. Globant continued to build capabilities through acquisitions and international expansion. It bought Nextive in 2011 to strengthen mobile-application development, acquired Brazil-based TerraForum in 2012 for innovation, knowledge-management, digital-marketing, social-media, and software expertise, and purchased a controlling interest in Huddle Group in 2013. WPP acquired a minority stake in Globant in 2013, reinforcing the company’s connection with the advertising and marketing-services ecosystem. Globant became a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange in 2014 under the ticker GLOB. During the following decade, the company added design, product-development, streaming, consulting, cloud, and digital-commerce capabilities. Acquisitions included Clarice Technologies in 2015, PointSource and Ratio in 2017, Belatrix Software in 2019, and a series of businesses in Argentina, Spain, the United Kingdom, and other markets during 2020 and 2021. The 2023 acquisition of Pentalog expanded Globant’s digital-transformation and engineering presence in Europe and other international markets. Globant positions itself around innovation-led transformation rather than commodity outsourcing. Its delivery model combines distributed engineering teams with specialized studios and industry practices. Customers may engage the company for a discrete product, a modernization program, a cloud migration, a customer-experience redesign, or a longer-term technology partnership. In addition to enterprise software work, Globant has developed public-facing initiatives such as the Women that Build awards and sponsorship activity in motorsport. It remains headquartered in Luxembourg, has substantial operations across the Americas and Europe, and is listed on the NYSE.
History
Globant began operations in Buenos Aires in 2003, founded by Martín Migoya, Guibert Englebienne, Martín Umaran, and Néstor Nocetti. Its initial business focused on software development for international customers and drew on Argentina’s growing technology-export sector. The company developed a reputation for combining engineering with design, digital strategy, and innovation rather than operating solely as a conventional outsourcing vendor. By 2008, Globant’s annual turnover had reached about US$40 million. It expanded through the acquisition of Accendra, an Argentine software company with roughly 100 employees, gaining operations in Chile and Colombia. It also acquired Openware, adding security and infrastructure-management expertise. In December of that year, Globant raised US$13 million from Riverwood Capital and FTV Capital in its third financing round. Industry recognition followed, including attention from IDC and other technology-sector organizations. The company used acquisitions to broaden its technical range. Nextive, acquired in 2011, strengthened mobile-application development. TerraForum, acquired in 2012, brought Brazilian consulting capabilities in innovation, knowledge management, digital marketing, social media, and software development. In 2013 Globant acquired 86.25 percent of Huddle Group, which operated in the United States, Argentina, and Chile. WPP also purchased a minority stake that year, linking Globant with one of the world’s major advertising and communications groups. Globant’s 2014 NYSE listing marked a major transition from a regional technology exporter to a public multinational. Its international expansion continued with Clarice Technologies in 2015, followed by PointSource and Ratio in 2017. PointSource contributed digital-transformation work in areas such as retail, supply chain, and insurance, while Ratio added video-streaming expertise. A planned role connected with Google’s Project Ara hardware-store concept did not continue after the project was cancelled. In 2019, Globant acquired Belatrix Software, a product-development company. The same year also brought litigation from Certified Collectibles Group over alleged misconduct related to a software operating system project. Globant expanded further in 2020 through acquisitions including BiLive, grupoAssa, Xappia, Giant Monkey Robot, and BlueCap. In 2021 it acquired CloudShift, Habitant, and Walmeric, and opened a development center in San José, Costa Rica. The company’s later strategy emphasized a geographically distributed technology platform serving large organizations across industries. In May 2023, Globant acquired Pentalog, a digital-transformation services company, extending its engineering and consulting reach. The company also increased its public brand activity through the Women that Build awards, which recognize women in STEAM, and through sponsorship of racing driver Franco Colapinto from 2024. Globant is headquartered in Luxembourg while retaining Argentine roots and a broad operating presence across the Americas, Europe, and other markets.
