Glanzstoff Austria

Glanzstoff Austria is an Austrian company that was founded in 1904 as the first foreign subsidiary of Vereinigte Glanzstoff AG. It produced chemical fibers and later became independent in 1983. In 1988, Lenzing AG took over the company. The company's history is documented on the website of dieKonerei, an event location in the former Glanzstoff premises in St. Pölten.

Glanzstoff Austria was founded in 1904 as the first foreign subsidiary of Vereinigte Glanzstoff AG, which itself was founded in 1899 after the invention of cuprammonium silk by Dr. Max Fremery and Ing. Johannes Urban. The company was led by Ing. Johannes Urban. After a turbulent history, it became independent in 1983 as Glanzstoff Austria Ges.m.b.H. In 1988, Lenzing AG took over the entire share capital of the company, which had been converted back into a stock corporation.
