The Chicago Rapid Transit Company was a private company that operated Chicago's elevated and subway lines from 1924 to 1947. It was formed by merging several predecessor companies, including the South Side Rapid Transit Company. In 1947, it was acquired by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), becoming part of the public system.
