Cölner Hofbräu Früh

Cölner Hofbräu Früh, commonly known simply as Früh, is a Cologne-based private brewery and beer brand specializing in Kölsch, the pale, top-fermented beer style traditionally associated with Cologne. Founded in 1904 by Peter Joseph Früh, the business developed around the city’s brewing and hospitality culture and became identified with the local custom of serving Kölsch in narrow cylindrical glasses known as Stangen. The brand’s historical center is the Früh am Dom complex near Cologne Cathedral. The site combines the brewery’s former premises and former family living quarters with hospitality facilities. After the production operation moved away from the original building, parts of the historic site were restored and adapted for guest use. The agreement concerned brewing and production cooperation and did not turn Früh into a publicly listed company. In March 2019, Früh announced a cooperation with Haus Kölscher Brautradition GmbH. The latter is a subsidiary of the Radeberger Group. The announced production schedule provided for all bottled beers to be produced at Früh’s Feldkassel brewery from 2020 and for draft beers of the Sion, Gilden, Peters, Dom, Sester, and Küppers Kölsch brands to be produced there from 2021. This cooperation marked an operational development in the brewery’s production arrangements while leaving the Früh brand’s Cologne heritage and historic hospitality presence intact.
