Bontain Coffee

Bontain Coffee (株式会社ボンタイン珈琲本社) is a Japanese coffee company founded in 1948. The company name derives from a town in Indonesia known for producing Toraja coffee, which was once the exclusive coffee of the Austro-Hungarian royal family. Bontain Coffee's mission is to deliver the highest quality, authentic coffee to customers. The company is headquartered in Nagoya and operates direct stores including Café Bontain and Cupping Room.

Bontain Coffee was founded in March 1948 as Kato Shokai in Nagoya's Kita-ku, Ikoma-cho. In October 1953, Bontain Coffee Shokai Co., Ltd. was established in Naka-ku, Minami-gofuku-cho. The company was incorporated in August 1958 as Bontain Shokai Co., Ltd. In October 1973, the company name was changed to Bontain Coffee Honsha Co., Ltd. (株式会社ボンタイン珈琲本社). Over the years, the company expanded its operations, including opening a real estate division in 1989, a Foods Land division in 1994, and obtaining a liquor retail license in 1998. In September 1998, the Bontain Group's Café Bontain was renewed and reopened in Nishiki Sanchome. In May 2011, Café Bontain Seibu Medical Center store opened. In August 2013, Café Bontain Chikusa store was renewed and reopened. In December 2013, Cupping Room Gokuraku store opened, followed by Cupping Room Sakaemachi store in April 2014.
