Bondalti

Bondalti is a Portuguese chemical company. It is the heir of the former Companhia União Fabril – CUF, a company with more than a hundred years of activity, founded by Alfredo da Silva and still in the family, now entering its fifth generation.

Bondalti is the heir of the former Companhia União Fabril – CUF. A company with more than a hundred years of activity, founded by Alfredo da Silva and that remains in the family, now entering its fifth generation. Throughout its existence it prospered in the Monarchy and the Republic, witnessed two world wars, depressions, revolutions and changes of political regimes. In 1898, Alfredo da Silva, shareholder of Companhia Aliança Fabril (CAF), promoted the merger of this company with CUF and moved towards large-scale fertilizer production. Also in this date, the Fábrica Sol, located on Avenida 24 de Julho, in Lisbon, entered CUF's heritage. In 1908, Alfredo da Silva chose Barreiro to continue CUF's strong expansion pace. On September 19, 1908, he inaugurated the first factory in the small fishing village of Lavradio and started the production of acids, transforming olive oil bagasse for the manufacture of soaps. The factories employed about 100 workers. Also in 1908, the construction of the Bairro Operário began. In the 1930s, CUF had factories in Lisbon, Barreiro, Alferrarede, Soure, Canas de Senhorim and Mirandela and employed 16 thousand people.
