On 12 September 1957, the Minister of Public Education authorized the Philharmonic Society to open a Liceo Musicale named 'Gaspare Spontini' starting from the 1957/58 school year. Later, on 17 March 1969, the Liceo Musicale was transformed into the Istituto Musicale 'Gaspare Spontini' (today Consorzio per l'Istituto Musicale 'Gaspare Spontini').
