Overview
Azercosmos is Azerbaijan's state-owned satellite operator and space-services organization. Established in 2010 as Azercosmos Open Joint Stock Company, it was created to implement the country's national satellite program, operate telecommunications satellites, develop satellite-based services, and support the growth of Azerbaijan's aerospace sector. The organization is associated with Azerbaijan's effort to establish an independent presence in space and has been described as the first satellite operator in the Caucasus region to be entirely owned by its national government. Azerbaijan's satellite program emerged from a government decision to create a modern national aerospace industry and place a telecommunications satellite in orbit.
