History
Amphenol began in Chicago in 1932, when Arthur J. Schmitt founded a company originally associated with the name American Phenolic Corporation. The Amphenol name is derived from that earlier corporate identity. The company’s first product was a radio-tube socket, serving the expanding electronics and radio industries. The Second World War was a major formative period. Amphenol became a significant supplier of connectors for military hardware, including aircraft and radio equipment. The company’s sensing and connectivity portfolio continued to expand with the acquisition of Exa Thermometrics in 2020 and MTS Systems, a transaction announced in 2020 and completed in 2021.
