Overview
Alpari is a financial-services and online-trading brand best known for retail foreign-exchange and contracts-for-difference services. The business began in Kazan, Russia, in 1998, founded by entrepreneur Andrey Dashin, and expanded internationally during the early 2000s. Rather than operating as one universally identical company, the brand has historically been used by separate legal entities established or licensed in particular jurisdictions. As a result, the products offered, customer eligibility rules, regulatory protections, leverage limits, payment arrangements and operating status have varied across markets and over time. The brand’s core proposition has been access to leveraged trading in currency pairs and, in many jurisdictions, contracts for difference linked to financial markets. Its customer-facing model has generally relied on online account opening, electronic trading platforms, market analysis and related brokerage services. CFDs and foreign-exchange products can involve substantial leverage and the risk of rapid loss, making local licensing and client-protection rules important parts of the brand’s operating context. Alpari developed a significant international presence through entities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Cyprus, Russia and other jurisdictions. Its former UK company, Alpari (UK) Limited, received regulatory authorisation in 2006 and offered foreign-exchange and CFD trading, as well as financial spread betting for UK residents. That operation entered insolvency proceedings in January 2015 after the Swiss National Bank unexpectedly removed its minimum exchange-rate policy for the Swiss franc against the euro, producing extreme market volatility. The English High Court subsequently appointed special administrators. Alpari’s US entity also ceased operating in 2015 after its National Futures Association membership was revoked. In Russia, the local Alpari Forex entity lost its licence through a Bank of Russia decision announced in December 2018, effective in January 2019. The brand has also undergone changes in its international corporate arrangements. Industry reporting linked its international operations with the Exinity group and the FXTM brand from 2020. In 2025, reports indicated that management of the Alpari brand had been separated from Exinity and transferred to Parlance Trading Ltd, a company licensed by the Mwali International Services Authority in the Comoros island of Mohéli. This arrangement describes the international service structure reported for 2025 and should not be treated as proof that every historical or regional Alpari entity remains active. Alpari’s history therefore combines early expansion, a broad multi-jurisdictional brokerage model and significant exposure to regulatory and market-structure changes. The brand remains associated with online forex and CFD trading, but its precise legal operator and regulatory permissions depend on the customer’s location. The Reserve Bank of India has listed Alpari among unauthorized online forex-trading platforms in India since September 2022, while former regulated operations in the United Kingdom, United States and Russia have ceased activity. The available reference material does not establish a single global headquarters, a public listing, a universal corporate owner or one consolidated financial reporting entity.
History
Alpari was established in Kazan, Russia, in 1998 by entrepreneur Andrey Dashin. The business expanded beyond Russia during the early 2000s and developed into a multinational online brokerage brand associated with retail foreign-exchange and contracts-for-difference trading. Its international growth was conducted through separate local or regional entities rather than through one consistently regulated global company. This structure meant that the brand's services and legal status differed by jurisdiction. In the United Kingdom, Alpari (UK) Limited received authorisation from the Financial Services Authority in 2006, later operating under the framework of the Financial Conduct Authority. The company provided foreign-exchange and CFD trading and offered financial spread betting to UK residents. In May 2010, the UK regulator fined the company £140,000 over weaknesses in its anti-money-laundering systems and controls. The firm's former money-laundering reporting officer was separately fined £14,000. Alpari also maintained a Cyprus office between 2010 and 2013. The authorisation of Alpari Financial Services Ltd, identified as Cyprus Investment Firm CIF 129/10, was voluntarily surrendered in December 2012, and the office closed in early 2013. The most consequential event in the brand's history occurred in January 2015. On 15 January, the Swiss National Bank abandoned its minimum exchange-rate policy linking the Swiss franc to the euro. The resulting volatility produced exceptionally large and rapid movements in foreign-exchange markets. Alpari UK announced insolvency on the following day. On 19 January, the English High Court placed the company into the UK's special administration regime and appointed KPMG as special administrators. The event ended the operation of Alpari UK as an active broker, although the brand had previously been visible in the British market through marketing and sponsorship, including principal shirt sponsorship of West Ham United from 2013 to 2015. Alpari also operated in the United States. Alpari (US), LLC became a member of the National Futures Association in 2007, but its NFA membership was revoked in April 2015. This ended the entity's ability to operate in the United States under that membership arrangement. In Russia, Alpari Forex LLC obtained a local forex-dealer licence after Russia introduced a licensing framework for retail foreign-exchange businesses in 2016 and 2017. On 27 December 2018, the Bank of Russia announced the annulment of the licences of five forex dealers, including Alpari Forex, citing repeated violations of securities law. The annulment took effect on 27 January 2019. The brand continued to be used through other international entities. In late 2018, industry reporting indicated that a Belize subsidiary was being closed and customers were being migrated to an entity in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. From 2020, Alpari's international activity was marketed alongside FXTM under the Exinity umbrella. A separate UK-based research and analysis company associated with the name, Alpari Research & Analysis Ltd, was dissolved in March 2020. In September 2022, the Reserve Bank of India added Alpari to its alert list of unauthorized online forex-trading platforms. This listing concerned access to the Indian market and did not itself determine the status of every Alpari entity elsewhere. In July 2025, industry outlets reported that management of the international Alpari brand had been separated from Exinity and placed with Parlance Trading Ltd. The reported operator was licensed by the Mwali International Services Authority in Mohéli, Comoros. Accordingly, Alpari's current international arrangement should be understood as jurisdiction-specific and distinct from its former UK, US and Russian regulated operations.
