Overview
AD Plastik is a Croatian automotive-components manufacturer headquartered in Solin. The company develops and produces plastic and other formed components for vehicle interiors and exteriors, supplying parts to automotive manufacturers and other members of the vehicle-production supply chain. Its output includes instrument and door panels, handles, carpets, hoods, sun visors, spoilers, deflectors, bumpers, diffusers, decorative parts, and static and dynamic seals. The company also manufactures certain injection-molded products and, to a smaller extent, packaging for the food and pharmaceutical industries. The business grew out of a longer industrial tradition connected with the former Jugoplastika organization in Split and surrounding areas. Production of automotive interior parts began in 1968 at plants producing items such as door and roof linings, sunshades, thermoformed interior coverings, mats, and seat protectors. These operations supplied vehicle programs associated with manufacturers including Zastava, Citroën, Renault, Fiat, Lada, Dacia, and Volkswagen. In 1988, the relevant activities were organized as RO Jugoplastika–Autodijelovi. The automotive-parts operation separated from Jugoplastika in 1992 and adopted the AD Plastik name in 1994. It was later privatized in 2001 through an employee-shareholding model. AD Plastik operates as an industrial supplier rather than a consumer-facing brand. Its projects are typically developed around particular vehicle models, manufacturing specifications, production volumes, and delivery schedules. This makes the company’s performance sensitive to vehicle-generation changes, customer sourcing decisions, automotive production levels, resin and other material costs, labor availability, energy prices, logistics, and conditions in the countries where it maintains production capacity. The company’s products are generally incorporated into finished vehicles and are not sold as independent consumer products under the AD Plastik name. The group has built a regional manufacturing network with operations in Croatia, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Russia, and Slovenia, while its customer base and exports extend into Western Europe. Public descriptions of the business identify customers or customer programs associated with companies including Renault, Stellantis, and Peugeot. More than 90% of production is reported as being exported to Western European customers. During the 2010s, the group employed approximately 3,000 people across facilities in Croatia, Russia, Romania, Hungary, and Serbia and produced components for roughly 80 vehicle models, with annual production exceeding 10 million products. As of 2024, the group’s production organization included AD Plastik facilities in Solin and Zagreb, AD Plastik Tisza in Hungary, ADP in Mladenovac, Russia-based operations in Tolyatti and Kaluga, and an AD Plastik operation in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. The group also includes Euro Auto Plastic Systems in Mioveni, Romania. AD Klaster, a business cluster initiated by AD Plastik, connects Croatian automotive and plastics companies with academic institutions and the Croatian Chamber of Economy. AD Plastik was included in the CROBEX share index of the Zagreb Stock Exchange in 2023. Its corporate profile combines inherited Croatian industrial capabilities with a geographically distributed automotive-supply operation serving European vehicle production.
History
AD Plastik’s history is rooted in the Croatian plastics and automotive-parts activities that developed within Jugoplastika. In 1968, the Galanterija and Termoprerada kombinat plants in Split began producing automotive interior components, including door and roof linings, sunshades, thermoformed interior coverings, mats, and seat protectors. These products were supplied for vehicle production associated with manufacturers such as Zavod Crvena Zastava, Citroën, Renault, Fiat, Lada, Dacia, and Volkswagen. During the early 1980s, the industrial network expanded beyond basic interior production. A department in Muć began making metal haberdashery, while facilities in Solin, Makarska, Split, and Muć produced injection-molded items, profiles, thermoformed components, metalwork, and other motor-vehicle parts and accessories. Together, these operations employed about 2,000 workers. In 1988, the automotive activities were reorganized as RO Jugoplastika–Autodijelovi. The automotive-parts operation separated from Jugoplastika in 1992. It changed its name to AD Plastik in 1994, establishing the corporate identity used today. The company was privatized in 2001 under an employee-shareholding model. Over the following years, it developed from a primarily Croatian industrial operation into a regional automotive supplier with production and affiliated operations in several Central, Eastern, and Southeastern European markets. By the 2010s, AD Plastik had facilities or group operations in Croatia, Russia, Romania, Hungary, and Serbia, with reported employment of approximately 3,000 people. Its portfolio included instrument panels, door linings, bumpers, decorative components, seals, and other interior and exterior parts. The company also used automated production processes and supplied components for dozens of vehicle models. A smaller portion of its activities involved injection-molded products and packaging for food and pharmaceutical applications. The group’s later operating footprint expanded to include a production operation in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, while its Romanian organization included Euro Auto Plastic Systems in Mioveni. Its production network has included sites in Solin and Zagreb, Hungary’s Tiszaújváros, Mladenovac in Serbia, Tolyatti and Kaluga in Russia, Novo Mesto in Slovenia, and Mioveni in Romania. The company’s customers and export activity have extended into Western Europe, with public descriptions naming Renault, Stellantis, and Peugeot among associated customers. More than 90% of output is reported to be exported to Western European customers. AD Plastik has also participated in wider efforts to develop the Croatian automotive and plastics sector. AD Klaster, initiated by the company, brings together Croatian automotive and plastics businesses, University of Zagreb faculties, and the Croatian Chamber of Economy. The company became part of the CROBEX share index in 2023. In 2024, it received a Golden Key award recognizing it as the most innovative exporter. The group remains an active, listed industrial supplier whose business is organized around vehicle programs, engineering requirements, and production contracts rather than direct consumer sales.
