Overview
Accenture is a global professional services company serving businesses, governments and other organizations through management consulting, technology services, digital transformation and operations support. Its business originated in the consulting practice of Arthur Andersen and separated from the Andersen organization in 1989 under the name Andersen Consulting; it adopted the Accenture name in 2001. Its activities span strategy and management consulting, cloud, data and artificial intelligence, systems implementation, software and platform services, cybersecurity and business-process services. Accenture works across industries including financial services, public service, communications and media, high technology, manufacturing, retail, resources and health. It operates through a global delivery network and typically works through consulting projects, technology implementations, managed services and long-term operations engagements. The brand is positioned around helping clients change their organizations, business models and technology estates rather than selling a single consumer product.
History
Accenture originated in the consulting practice of Arthur Andersen. In 1989, the consulting business separated from the Andersen organization under the name Andersen Consulting and developed as an independent management consulting and technology services firm. Following the separation, it expanded into strategy, information technology implementation and outsourcing, while building global delivery and industry capabilities. In 2000, an arbitration process confirmed the organizational separation between Andersen Consulting and Arthur Andersen; in 2001, the company adopted the Accenture name. It subsequently broadened from traditional management consulting toward an integrated professional services model combining strategy, technology, digital services and operations. As cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital experience became more important, the company expanded its capabilities through internal investment, partnerships and acquisitions. Accenture now operates through a global professional services network serving multinational companies, public-sector bodies and other large organizations.
